What happens when I call Safeway to report a car accident and file a claim?
First call the telephone number listed ‘in case of accident’ on your insurance card. If you do not have your insurance card, click here to find the number for your nearest Safeway Insurance office. Please make sure you have all the information you need to make a claim, before you call. Our friendly Claims Advisors will take down all the information about your accident and assign your claim to a Claims Representative who will be in charge of reviewing your insurance claim.

We will inspect your car and prepare a written estimate for the cost of the repairs. Repairs will then be carried out, or if the damage is so bad, that the cost of the repairs exceeds the vehicle’s fair market value, your car will be considered a total loss. Then we will ask your permission to remove the car to secure storage and process your claim settlement.
If your coverage allows for the cost of a rental car, we will advise you how much we will pay per day and for how long we will help cover these costs.
You will get your repaired vehicle returned to you, or you will get a check in final settlement. We aim to settle your claim as quickly as possible, either getting your car repaired and returned or paying you for a total loss.
We handle any liability investigation. If another vehicle was involved, or someone was injured, we will contact you within 48 hours of your initial accident report to us. We thoroughly review all liability claims made by others, including accident reports, police reports and witness statements.
How long will repairs take?
Your written estimate for the cost of the repairs will show the number of hours required to fix your vehicle. Your repair shop should be able to give you a rough estimate of when repairs will be complete, however please remember that parts will need to be ordered and delivered and that a quality repair job can take time.
What if more damage is discovered?
Once repair work starts on your car, more hidden damage can often be discovered. If this happens your Claims Representative will be notified and asked to approve any additional work required. This further approval process can delay repairs, however we make every effort to ensure your vehicle is repaired as quickly as possible.
Who do I call if I have questions?
Your Claims Representative will be able to help you if you have any questions, so please keep their phone number and your claim number at hand.
How does a deductible work?
Your ‘deductible’ is the amount you will personally have to pay to have your vehicle repaired or replaced.
When you purchase your insurance policy you can decide what amount your deductible will be. For example, if you have a $500 deductible and the cost of the repairs to your car are $2,500, you will pay the first $500 and the remaining balance of $2,000 is paid by Safeway Insurance.
